What a tremendous speaker and motivator.
Wonderful speech! It was funny and informative. It reminds us that every student has talent.
I love the quote: "Creativity is as important as literacy." Imagine learning walks to look for kids using creativity?
Very enjoyable speech! He states that "intelligence is diverse, dynamic, and distict" This is so true and often overlooked.
"If you're not prepared to be wrong, you'll never come up with anything original." Equally applicable to students and teachers but, as KR notes, it's not what's being emphasized in education.
Funny and interesting. I do feel that he is correct in saying that children that cannot sit are too often recommended for medication.

WOW!! What a speech. He makes a good point about intelligence being diverse. We just got through learning about that. I agree that creativity is an asset to us all and should be utilized more in education.
Talk about stage presence! His personal antidotes truly bring his argument that creativity is as important as literacy to life. Intelligence can be displayed and nurtured in many ways, and this speech helps remind us of that very fact as future teachers.
I agree that each student has a special strength and as teachers it is our job to find it encouraging creativity and to continue preparing students to be wrong.
I agree that creativity is the key, all children can be reached, we just need to find what keeps them interested and curious...
What a persuasive and inspiring speech delivered with such humor. Very enjoyable! He makes a comment about the unpredictability of the future, yet as educators we are suppose to prepare these students for the future. Equally interesting, was the comment he made that we don't grow into creativity; we grow out of it. Creativity needs to be emphasized in the classroom.
"if you are not prepared to be wrong-you will never come up w/anything original" how true. SirKR points out how kids are willing to take chances, they don't start out being afraid of risks. how/why do we "educate" this quality out of them. for many of us (adults) it is soooo difficult to relearn how to take risks and try new things. "what if i fail?!?"
this presentation makes me wonder how i have unintentionally squished creativity in students
What an interesting and engaging talk! I loved the part about Shakespeare having been in someone's English class! I would enjoy seeing him in person.
Great speech and funny! It is interesting how he challenges the way children are educated. I agree that creativity is very important.
Great speaker!! Stifling creative juices is an injustice to our children and to ourselves. As current and future teachers we need to tap into our own creativity as we are learning alongside our students. Tiggerl

I agree that most people grow out of creativity and not into it. I feel that it is our job as future teachers to try and keep the spark of creativity going in our students.
What a dynamic speaker. I especially liked the story regarding his son. Kids are not afraid to try something new. THey don't worry that they'll make a mistake! I also liked the story re: J. Lund-imagine all of that potential wasted and kept "under control" w/ meds???
Amazing speech! Interesting and funny! He really makes you think of how important the information we teach will be for the future of our students.
What a great speaker. He really made you think about how we operate as a society. He said that as adults we are afraid to be wrong. Unfortunately, I think that is true. Also, the story about the girl being a dancer was thought provoking. Why isn't that what we would think in the first place?
Wow! This was a very entertaining video. I enjoyed his humor and every point he made. Robinson made A LOT of sense in a very amusing manner.
Mr. Robinson has opened my eyes to the fact that students learn in different ways other than reading and writing and that is is up to us as new teachers to make sure that we accommodate them accordingly with new technologies at hand.
Wow! I have to look into this view point more this is very interesting. He was very entertaining and he opened my eyes to a different way to view my students learning.
I agree completely with Sir Robinson that we must reevaluate our education systems because so many students are casted aside for being different. We as educators need to embrace the fact that creative minds are the future.
Entertaining, comical, and eye-opening...I want to read his book Epiphany...All children have talents, we as teachers must help them realize and cultivate their talents. Gillian the dancer must "move to think." There are many inspirational speakers that can be accessed on the internet...The Last Lecture, Randy Pausch
He makes some excellent points about children's abilities and about how the educational system destroys many of those abilities. I believe that there is an immense amount of change that can take place within our educational system that will allow it to truly work for every child. I enjoyed his speech a great deal. Creativity is most definitely not as valued in most cases as the traditional definition of intelligence.

Sir Ken Robinson was very dynamic when he talked of students and creativity. Students must be allowed to be creative, however, they must first have a good command of the basic skills necessary to be successfull. It is also important to note that students should be regulated with technological devices. The proper use of these devices require lots of intense training of students. Some require a certain level of maturity that some students cannot handle.
What a wonderful speech! Mr. Robinson is a great public speaker. Loved his stories. "We get educated out of creativity," I think this is very true. Many times young students are not given the opportunity to be creative or share their talents.
This speech was entertaining yet packed powerful points throughout. One of my favorite quotes was, "If you are not prepared to be wrong, you will never come up with anything original." I thought that this was a great way to put it!
Sir Robinson has such a magnetic presence. I was very impressed with the conclusions that he had shared regarding creativity. The story that he shared about the little girl that couldn't sit still, avoided diagnostic medication prescriptions, and went on to be a famous dancer absolutely blew me away.
"Creativity is as important as Literacy, and should be treated with the same status." I couldn't agree more, Sir.
I really liked the part where he said that if you are not prepared to be wrong, you will never come up with something original.. well this have been the case with me, i have always been afraid to make mistakes and that didnot really help me much with the creative part of me until i learned that it is ok to be wrong and to make mistakes and to be laughed at sometimes and this helped me be a better educator.
Loved the speech! I like the part when he mentioned the story about Gillian Lynne. I believe doctors are to quick to prescribe medications to children. Children have talents in many different areas. When children are not progressing as expected in school, we as educators must look for different avenues.
Fantastic speaker! the fear of being wrong limiting your success and creativity--how true, it always amazed me how people are more willing to sit there and not understand rather then seek clarity and risk being wrong..
Great speach. Very funny.I agree that as teachers we should give students the opportunity to be creative in order to develop their talents and express themself. This will help them to develop confidence and self-esteem.
Every student does have talent! We just need to be reminded so that we will stay motivated. Want to rewatch!
Educational and an informative speaker! It was pleasure to listen to someone with enlightening and inspiring ideas.
Wow!! He really motivates everyone to believe in themselves. He is absolutly right intelligence can be measured in many different ways. I once heard something really interesting from one of my psychology professors in my undergraduate studies and he said, "If you were to get lost in the Amazon jungle all of what you have learned in school means absolutly nothing, in fact from the natives point of view, not know how to survive will label you as un-educated basically your not intelligent." Allowing people to flurish in areas they have interest in and are good at will set them up for a life full of accomplishment and contentment.
I really enjoyd Ted's speech. He has a good balance of humor with some hard truths. I was particularly interested in his thoughts on creativity and how it "is as important as literacy". He goes on to say that "we don't grow into creativity, we grow out of it". I think creativity is squashed a lot of times in school... as if there's no room for it. But creativity can only enhance a child's learning and let them open their mind to new experiences and new possibilities.
Very interesting.
Great speech, both informative and funny. I agree with the speaker; as a future teacher we have to develop students' creativity, so they can better fit into a more changing and advancing society.
I really like the quote Chloe highlighted as well. Creativity is key in education; in the learning process as well as the process of conveying the lesson to the student.
I think it's great that we learned how to input youtube videos into our blogspot.
Yes, I agreed with the video by K Robinson that school does kill creativity. In school, students are trained to follow a set of guideline that leaves no room for creativity. Educators forget that students have the capacity to broaden their knowledge in different ways. K Robinson defines creativity as an original idea that has value. Therefore, educators need to encourage the creativity of students as they embark on various learning styles.
I love it ' what a great speaker. I finally find some one who agrees with me. The school system should understand that students have different ways of learning like K Robinson said.
Creativity is the key to getting students involved. The spice of education if you will.
Amazing
Indeed, like previous comments stated, he is quite the professional speaker. His articulation is on point!
I would agree Erin, I'd love to see the ol' Bard as well.
This was a great speech. I like that he said students should be creative
Ken Robinson spoke my mind! My "life's thesis" is based on the belief that creativity should be at the top of the educational hierarchy, because nothing moves forward-- nothing is risked, or originated-- without it. I thoroughly enjoyed Ken Robinson's talk, seasoned with a lot of great laughs, and entrenched with truth that could transform our entire educational system!
This was such a motivational speech. Sir Ken Robinson brings up such great points. I believe that integrating technology into the classroom will give us new ways to enhance the way we teach our children. These opportunities will give them the skills they need to reach their full potential.
What a smart guy, and funny! I think Sir Robinson is right on the money. Creativity is such a valuable asset for any human, especially children. It allows us to dream and imagine, invent and contemplate. He made a good point about education being geared solely toward preparation for work-evinced by the arts being at the bottom of the educational hierarchy. Work prep. certainly has value, "people gotta eat!" but there still must be joy in learning and creating for its own sake. I particularly appreciated the anecdote about the "hyperactive" girl who became a dancer. We need to get away from classifying differences as disabilities...I'll be looking for his lordship's book. Great post! chris
I enjoyed the quote "must be prepared to be wrong in order to be creative". Creativity is born throuhg possibility of making mistakes and striving to perform better. As future educators we must encounter that in our practice.
